Children Mission offers a range of training programs designed to equip adults with practical skills for supporting children’s emotional and spiritual well-being. Each course provides structured, evidence-based tools for working with war-affected children.

Basic Principles of Helping Children with Emotional Healing

Aim: Equip practitioners to provide immediate support to emotionally traumatized children.

Description: This introductory course teaches participants to understand trauma’s impact on children, build supportive relationships, and create safe spaces where healing can occur. Students learn active listening skills and how to use play as a communication tool. Practical exercises include supervised sessions with traumatized children using the methods studied.

Time commitment: 32 hours  |  Credits: 1 ECTS

Format: Online (6 sessions), In-person (4 sessions), or Blended

Practical Tools for Helping Children with Emotional Healing

Aim: Provide practical techniques for emotional and psychological support of traumatized children.

Description: Students learn specific evidence-based techniques including expressive drawing, sand therapy, therapeutic stories, and emotional regulation exercises. The course combines theory with extensive hands-on practice. Participants conduct five supervised sessions with children, applying the tools with mentor support and feedback.

How to Support a Child During War: Path to Emotional Healing

Aim: Equip communities to provide healing and hope to war-affected children and families.

Description: This course provides both psychological and spiritual foundations for supporting war-traumatized children. Through case studies and practical exercises, students learn to build trusting relationships that facilitate healing. The course emphasizes hope-centered approaches rooted in compassion and evidence-based practice. Participants complete supervised sessions with children to reinforce learning.

Training Course for Parents — How to Support a Child During War

Aim: Teach parents practical skills for supporting children through war-related stress and trauma.

Description: Parents learn how to help children cope with stress, practice active listening, and provide emotional support during difficult moments. The course also addresses adult self-care and resilience, ensuring parents can maintain their own psychological health and emotional well-being while supporting their children. Participants receive practical exercises and tools they can apply immediately at home.

Time commitment: 6 hours

OpSAFE Trauma Care Program — Training for Camp and Club Leaders

Aim: Equip camp directors, club leaders, and volunteers to facilitate trauma-informed programs for war-affected children.

Description: OpSAFE is a structured 5-day program designed by crisis intervention professionals using the SAFER-R model. Participants learn to lead camps or clubs that help children stabilize, process trauma, and build resilience through therapeutic storytelling, creative activities, and faith-based support. The program uses Arctic animal characters and daily themes aligned with crisis recovery stages. Training covers station leadership, group facilitation, and creating safe environments for traumatized children.

Time commitment: minimum 6 hours

Format: In-person, online, or distance training (with obligatory consulting session for camp/club implementation teams)

Who should attend: Camp directors, Sunday school directors, church leaders, youth workers, volunteers planning children’s programs
